Lucca, part 1

Lucca is best known for the medieval wall that completely encircles the old town. The wall is about 30' high and 100' thick. The top of the wall is now a park with a paved path, picnic table, and benches scattered around it. It's a great place to spend an afternoon!

100' thick? What was the perimeter length? Imagine all the ( probably slaves) it took and the length of time to build something that immense.

Here's a site with the history of the wall: http://www.luccaportal.it/art-and-culture/the-walls-of-lucca.php

The current incarnation is from the 1500s.
